Teeth Whitening London
Teeth Whitening London is a boom industry as more and more of us are looking for brighter whiter smiles and an end to stained and discoloured teeth. Many London dentists can perform tooth whitening services, though you are unlikely to get your tooth whitening paid for by the NHS (National Health Service). There are tooth whitening kits available to buy online, supplied by dental clinics and at pharmacies. But beware: tooth whitening can damage your health and it’s a question of knowing which tooth whitening methods are safe to use?
So what is the best option: teeth whitening London performed by a professional dentist, a DIY kit you can buy yourself or maybe something else? We have done the research and so we can tell you. Please read on…
Please note: is is strongly recommended that you have your teeth checked over by a qualified dentist before you undergo any type of chemical whitening method. Teeth whitening London using strong chemicals can harm our teeth. There are also health issues connected with so-called “laser bleaching” – see below.
Different Types of Teeth Whitening
Almost all teeth whitening processes involve bleaching the collagen that was left in the tooth after it was formed. The exception is called “Internal Whitening” and involves a dental process that cleans out the inside of the tooth and fills it with a white gel. Internal whitening is only usually used when the inside of the tooth is too black to bleach in conventional ways.
There are four main types of teeth bleaching processes:
- In-office bleaching, which is applied by a professional dentist at their own premises. This may or may not include “light treatment”.
- At-home bleaching, which is supplied by a dentist or other tooth whitening practioner, but which is administered by the patient at their own home; and
- Over-the-counter bleaching products, which is applied by patients; and options called non-dental, which are offered at mall kiosks, spas, salons, or other similar places). Whitening products intended for home use include gels, chewing gums, rinses, toothpastes, among others.
- Natural herbal teeth whitening treatments such as Whitening Teeth Secrets
Laser Teeth Whitening London
Despite what the adverts and brochures may tell you, “laser bleaching” doesn’t really exist. What is mis-advertisied as “laser teeth whitening” is in reality power or light-accelerated bleaching, which is later technology than lasers. Power bleaching is administered inside the practitioner’s office and is meant to use the energy from light to accelerate the bleaching process. A typical power bleaching treatment will involve exposing light on to professional dental-grade hydrogen peroxide whitening gel for anything up to 15 minutes. Most power teeth whitening treatments can be completed in one visit to a dentist or clinic in around 30 minutes to one hour.
You must be careful that your dental practitioner is capable of whitening your teeth safely. An article in the journal Science Daily concerned with Teeth Whitening London reported that a Royal Society of Chemistry journal declared that UV light-enhanced tooth bleaching is “not only a con, but is dangerous to your eyes and skin. The light treatment gives absolutely no benefit over bleaching without UV, and damages skin and eyes up to four times as much as sunbathing.”
Teeth Whitening London: Prices
Professional teeth whitening London prices vary a lot and can start as low as £75 and rise to several thousand pounds for a complete treatment. It is very difficult to compare like with like, as everybody’s teeth are different and may require different treatments. I did discover a far cheaper option that is all natural and 100% safe to use.
